Chemical looping combustion (CLC) is a promising CO 2 capture technology, which expected to achieve 100% capture efficiency with a low energy penalty. The principle of CLC is utilizing an oxygen carrier as a medium for transporting oxygen between two reactors, aiming to avoid nitrogen in combustion exhaust.

How does CLC work?
In CLC, a metal oxide is employed as a bed material providing the oxygen for combustion in the fuel reactor. The reduced metal is then transferred to the second bed (air reactor) and re-oxidized before being reintroduced back to the fuel reactor completing the loop. Fig 1 shows a simplified diagram of the CLC process.
